Q: Is the hospital safe?
A: We thoroughly clean our facility and all surgical equipment is sterilized before use, following CDC guidelines. We continue to adhere to guidelines from the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention in screening our patients, visitors and staff daily for COVID-19 as well as use personal protective equipment (PPE) as recommended by the CDC.
Q: What is included in the Safe & Ready initiative
A: Our Safe and Ready program consists of a rigorous five-point standard ensuring patient safety, confidence and convenience:
- Expanded hours that allow previously cancelled procedures to be scheduled as quickly as possible
- Any COVID-19 related care takes place in designated areas away from other patients and their families
- Emergency Departments are reorganized to be a safe place to treat all emergency patients
- A stringent cleaning policy has been implemented throughout the hospital
- A strictly controlled visitor and masking policy is required for patient safety
Q: Can I still schedule a virtual telehealth visit instead of coming into a physician’s office?
A: Yes, call your provider or visit StewardMedicalGroup.org.
Q: When can I be scheduled for my procedure that was previously postponed, or that I recently learned is recommended by my physician?
A: Restrictions on elective surgeries that were put in place several weeks ago due to the COVID-19 crisis have been lifted. We are pleased to be able to help you coordinate and schedule the surgical procedure you need for the important care recommended by your surgeon.
Q: Will I need to be tested for COVID-19 before my procedure?
A: You will be screened at the time of scheduling your surgery as well as on the day of the procedure. If you meet the criteria (cough, fever, travel to an area where many people have COVID-19, exposure to someone positive or recent hospitalization) you may be tested.
Q: Do I need to quarantine before my procedure?
A: Prior to your procedure, members of our hospital team will reach out to discuss your care. Your physician will make recommendations for self-quarantine only if he or she feels that step is appropriate. We do suggest you follow social distancing guidelines before undergoing your procedure.
Q: Will I come into contact with other patients who may have COVID-19?
A: Any patient who is being treated for COVID-19 receives their care in a separate and isolated area of the hospital.
Q: Where will I receive my care at the hospital?
A: If you will require inpatient care following your procedure, your care team at the hospital will provide information regarding how to access the facility and where you will receive post-surgical care if applicable.
Q: Can I bring someone with me to my procedure or a driver?
A: For the best safety of our patients and health care workers, we are currently employing social distance practices and visitor restrictions. Check our website homepage for the latest visitor policy. Logistics regarding access to the hospital, family communication during your procedure and discharge will be discussed during scheduling and pre-admission conversations with your physician and hospital registration staff.
Q: What instructions will I receive following my surgery?
A: Following your surgery, we will also provide you with guidelines to follow for your individualized care, including standard precautions we recommend you take after surgery, including social distancing, washing your hands, keeping your surgical wound clean and covered, and taking your medications as prescribed.

Q: What can I do to protect myself from COVID-19 before my surgery?
A: In the days leading up to your scheduled procedure or surgery:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. Use alcohol-based sanitizer if water/soap is not available.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick, even inside your home
- Stay at least 6 feet away from other people
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily.
- Cover your mouth and nose with a cloth face cover when around others
- Stay home as much as possible
