Steward Health Care Vaccinates 100,000 Americans – And Counting – Against Covid-19
Physician-owned network’s 40,000 health care professionals unite to fight pandemic
Dallas (May 20, 2021) – Steward Health Care, the nation’s largest physician-owned and -led health care network, has fully vaccinated 100,000 Americans in the fight against COVID-19 – and continues to vaccinate patients at an average rate of 845 people per day across the country.
Steward Health Care employs more than 5,000 providers and 40,000 health care professionals who serve 12 million patients a year through its network of 34 U.S. hospitals, urgent care centers, skilled nursing facilities, substantial behavioral health services and more. This week’s administration of 100,000 full vaccines – which includes completion of both first and second doses – took place in Odessa, Tex., marking an important milestone in the fight against COVID-19.
“While the rate of active cases is dropping and mask mandates are being lifted, getting the vaccine remains a critical step in keeping cases low and this virus from spreading,” said Octavio Diaz, M.D., Steward Health Care chief medical officer. “The tremendous strides the medical field has made in creating a safe and effective vaccine should not be ignored as we all look ahead to the other side of this battle.”
Steward Health Care’s physician-owned and -led business model has enabled its network hospitals to seamlessly share resources to meet patient needs – including COVID-19 vaccines to ensure they are readily available in local communities.
“Our frontline workers continue to prove themselves as heroes every day, having spent the last year selflessly serving patients in incredibly challenging circumstances, and now expanding their efforts to educate patients about how this vaccine works and the safety it can provide,” said Diaz.
